The Sacred Cocoon

Biography

My name is Lottie Winchester and I am an English multimedia artist based in Northwest Arkansas, USA.

My work revolves largely around transpersonal experiences, especially in the fields of consciousness and psychology.
Transpersonal experience are defined by R. Walsh and F. Vaughan as "[experiences] in which the sense of identity or self extends beyond (trans) the individual or personal to encompass wider aspects of humankind, life, psyche or cosmos." (1)
I work in mediums including acrylic, watercolor and digital painting, collage, weaving, crochet and sculpture, with my main focus being on expression of emotions, growth and intuitive knowledge.

Spirituality and energy work plays a central role in my work. Raised in a Spiritualist household, it is my deep belief that the soul carries on existence after death and that each of us is guided by a spirit team to fulfill our highest potential.
At the age of 13 I began studying Tarot, adding Oracle and Charm casting at 15 and 25 respectively, and I have been offering spiritual counseling services for nearly a decade.
After leaving home at 18 I pursued a University education in Traditional Chinese Medicine, specializing in Acupuncture. I then went on to gain a diploma in Reflexology and embarked on self study in aromatherapy, Bach flower remedies and herbal medicine.
I combine these modalities and practices with a holistic philosophy of healing and soul growth, and use my art practice to explore these areas in a tactile way.

The function and role of art in the community and in connecting with others is also of great interest to me. I am particularly interested in the healing potential of art for each person who experiences it, as a way to bear witness to the emotions and experiences that form who we are as individuals.
